DEIDENTIFIED.
Every Letter Counts.Monotype challenged us to prove that typography carries cultural weight — that letterforms aren't just aesthetic choices but active participants in how meaning is made and trust is built.
When major brands quietly removed DEI from their language and commitments, they treated three letters like a footnote. But those letters weren't decoration — they were a promise. And when brands erased them, most people didn't notice. That invisibility was the problem.
What gets removed doesn't disappear quietly. Subtraction leaves a wound. And in typography — as in culture — what's missing changes everything around it.
DEIDENTIFIED. Take the brands that built their identity on diversity and remove the DEI. Watch what's left. The hollowed-out words don't just look broken — they feel broken. Every letter counts. Especially the ones you thought you could afford to lose.
The typographic argument lives in the negative space. We didn't add anything — we subtracted. Using Monotype's own typefaces, we removed D, E, and I from the brand words that carried them, then let the remaining letterforms carry the argument. The campaign doesn't explain the loss. It makes you feel it.
